I want to introduce your members our small charity, Hope for Children www.hope4c.org, that has been working in Sri Lanka and India for twelve years. The impact of the tsunami on our work was of course significant and we had to work hard to raise funds (not receiving any of the £350m raised by the DEC) to assist where we could, initially targeting children under the age of five years old. We have a number of projects in place.
We strongly believe that children are best brought up in a family environment and that institutionalisation should be the last resort. To this end we set in progress a tsunami fostering programme, placing orphans with extended family and those who had lost their own children. This scheme has been introduced in cooperation with the Sri Lanka Government and assists orphans of all religions. We have at present managed to place about 700 orphans with families to who we provide a small monthly allowance to help with necessities; these children and families are monitored by social workers. This is an ongoing commitment for years to come.
HOPE is a low cost organisation that makes sure that funds raised actually get to where they are needed and are effectively used. If your organisation were looking for a conduit to ensure good use of funds raised while at the same time facilitating Gift Aid on donations, then this is something we can consider. To this end I would be happy to meet to discuss any possible future collaboration.
Kind regards Simon
