Red Cross request

10/21/2009

We have received the following request from the Red Cross...

In advance of the fifth anniversary of the Tsunami, we are expecting media interest and therefore have put together a plan to enable us to highlight the work of the British Red Cross, mainly Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Our plans include media trips to the Maldives and Indonesia and a web-based campaign to illustrate the work that has been carried out. This will include an interactive map of the areas affected as well as multimedia content so that people can click and read/ see survivors stories. We are also planning an 'interactive challenge' - a game to help people understand the very complex nature of recovery programmes in the tsunami affected region.

For the survivors stories, we were hoping that it will not purely focus on survivors from the affected region, but also people here in the UK. We were wondering if any survivor's or relatives, who were supported by the British Red Cross either overseas or on their return to the UK, might be willing to contact us if they would be happy to speak to the media. It would help to build an overall picture of how people are moving on from the disaster which affected so many.

Anyone who would be willing to talk to us can contact Amanda George. Telephone
020 7877 7524 or email  ageorge@redcross.org.uk
